Richland County (9)
Population………………….. 9,746 (2010 Census) Richland County split from Dawson County in 1914 and Sidney became the county seat. Type of Government………..Mayor / Council. In the heart of Northeastern Montana, you will find the Rich-Land. This is a place of open spaces, breath taking natural beauty, as well as an adaptive, diverse economy. There is a certain pride demonstrated from the long-term residents of Richland County. An unspoken mannerism of warmth, dedication and determination to make the best with what they have. This vision has been passed along from generation to generation, as the pioneers of long ago etched out their places in history, to be honored still today. Richland County encompasses just over 2,100 square miles of land with an estimated population of 9,746 residents living in the cities and towns of Crane, Fairview, Lambert, Savage and the county seat, Sidney. Air transportation is provided to Richland County by Silver Airways and the Richland-Sidney airport. There are three state highways that intersect at Sidney, and rail service is mainly provided by Burlington Northern Santa Fe. The adequate supply of irrigation water availability from the Yellowstone and Missouri Rivers fosters an optimum environment for agricultural crops. The management of the water falls under the control of the Lower Yellowstone Irrigation Project. With agriculture (to include dry land as well as irrigated crops) as one of the top economic drivers in the county, there are several agricultural processors or handling facilities located here. Sidney Sugars, the sugar beet processing plant, Busch Ag Resources, Inc. a malt barley handling facility, as Safflower Technologies, have increased the property and tax base values here. Equally important are the elevators located in Lambert, Fairview as well as in Sidney. -
Savage (7)
Most of the residents are employed in agriculture or providing services to those who do. Located west of the town is the Westmoreland Coal Mine and to northeast of town lies Elk Island Recreation Area. Also located fifteen miles south of Savage on Highway 16 is Intake and the Lower Yellowstone Diversion Dam, a prime site for paddle fishing. -
Lambert (9)
Population………………………150 (2010 Census) School Enrollment K-12...135 Major Employers…………Pauper Industries, Lambert School District, Nortana, Town & Country Repair. Lambert was originally an incorporated town and was later devastated in the early 1920s due to a series of costly fires, which ultimately led to its un-incorporation in 1928. -

Fairview has the unique distinction of being a two-state community, with the town site straddling the Montana-North Dakota borders. The community highlights include a beautiful city park, which offers a free campground and RV hookups, as well as a state of the art swimming pool. The Fairview Bridge, located at Sundheim Park, is a treasure that draws outdoor enthusiasts from all over. Both the Fort Union Trading Post and Fort Buford are located just 11 miles north of Fairview; as is Snowden Bridge, one of the only vertical lift bridges remaining in the country. -

Sidney was incorporated in 1911. Sidney is the second largest city in Eastern Montana next to Miles City, and the 20th largest city in the State. Sidney dates back to 1888 and is known as the “Sunrise City”. Sidney has three public schools - one elementary, one junior high and one high school- along with one private school and 17 churches. Many of the highlights include the MonDak Heritage Center & Art Gallery, one of the best-combined museum and art facilities in the state. Sidney is the home of a beautiful eighteen-hole golf course and clubhouse, has the only indoor hockey arena in Eastern Montana, and an Olympic-size pool with a waterslide. Sidney is the home of the Richland County Event Center located at the fairgrounds. Sidney has been historically recognized for the trees,as well as numerous surrounding municipal parks. Sidney is considered to be a major retail center for Eastern Montana and Western North Dakota. It is also the home to one of the region’s finest full-service medical facilities (Sidney Health Center) in the area.
