Montana Dakota Utilities

Montana-Dakota Utilities distributes natural gas and propane and operates electric power generation, transmission and distribution in Richland County. Their offices can be reached at 800/638-3278.

Lewis & Clark Electric Generating Station is established along the Yellowstone River in 1958, the station generates an average of 250,000 megawatts of electricity annually. The coal powered plant consumes about 230,000 tons of coal each year from Knife River Coal Co. in Richland County.

Westmoreland Savage Mine

 

The, Westmoreland Savage Mine, mine is located near Savage with 11 full-time employees and 1 part-time.  The mine produces about 300,000 tons of coal each year, the bulk of that for the Lewis & Clark Station in Sidney, with the rest going to the Sidney Sugar refinery and local sales.

Hi-Land Partners Inc. was established in 2004.  The plant is located on Hwy 16 northwest of Sidney.

Mid-Rivers Telephone Cooperative

Water & Sewer

Sidney and Fairview are served by city water systems, while Lambert and Savage residents  have individual private systems.

 

Sidney operates 6 wells with a capacity of 47,000 gallons per minute and a storage capacity of 1.3 million gallons.  Private systems are used in the rest of the county.

 

Fairview uses 2 wells with a capacity of 1,000 gals./min. and a storage capacity of 300,000 gallons.  Private systems are used in the rest of the county.

 

In Sidney, storm sewers cover 10% of the city while sanitary sewers cover 100%.  Sidney has a two-cell lagoon system, with a 1 million gal./day capacity. Fairview’s sewer system features a three-cell aerated lagoon. Solid waste disposal is handled by a sanitary landfill.

In both, Lambert and Savage, private water systems are used.  Each community has a sewer lagoon system.  The remaining residents outside of the area have private systems.
